Overview
As one part of the CJF Catalyst Grant Award “Advancing Central Coast AAM Ecosystem: Jobs and Infrastructure” through Uplift Central Coast and in partnership with Joby Aviation, DART has begun open recruitment for the first cohort (3) of aircraft maintenance technician (AMT) apprentice roles. While our first cohort is small, we are aiming for a successful outcome, to help us scale this in-demand, earn-and-learn career opportunity.
DART is actively seeking funding to expand access to high-impact aviation careers by sponsoring additional AMT apprenticeship candidates. We’re also seeking strategic partnerships to develop next-generation aviation apprenticeship pathways that address critical workforce needs and open doors for underrepresented talent. Partners within our current recruitment pathways include community-based organizations, community colleges, and workforce development boards.
Our advanced manufacturing apprenticeship program, in partnership with Joby Aviation and The James Irvine Foundation, has scaled to bring apprenticeships to 92 individuals, over 90% of whom transitioned to full-time positions upon completion. We hope to drive the same growth for AMT apprenticeships through the success of our initial cohort.
AMTs make a median annual wage of over $75,000 in the United States and the role is projected to see 13,400 job openings each year, making this a lucrative and stable career opportunity. AMT apprentices earn a competitive wage over the 1-3 year program. For a list of applicant requirements, refer here.
